چکیده

ound-trip translation (RTT), otherwise known as reverse translation or back-and-forth translation, involves the translation of text from one language to another (the forward translation or FT) and back again (the back translation or BT), e.g., a paragraph written in English can be translated to Spanish, and then, the resulting Spanish text can be translated back to English again. RTT has been used in several previous studies (e.g., Glidden-Tracey & Greenwood, 1997; Klaudy, 1996), as some have argued that if the final and original texts are identical or very similar, RTT provides strong evidence that the forward translation is of high quality (Chan, 2006).

Round-trip Translation: What Is It Good For?

This paper considers the popular but questionable technique of ‘round-trip translation’ (RTT) as a means of evaluating free on-line Machine Translation systems. Two experiments are reported, both relating to common requirements of lay-users of MT on the web. In the first we see whether RTT can accurately predict the overall quality of the MT system. In the second, we ask whether RTT can predict...

Unsupervised Measurement of Translation Quality Using Multi-engine, Bi-directional Translation

Lay people discussing machine translation systems often perform a round trip translation, that is translating a text into a foreign language and back, to measure the quality of the system. The idea behind this is that a good system will produce a round trip translation that is exactly (or perhaps very close to) the original text. However, people working with machine translation systems intuitiv...

The Correlation of Machine Translation Evaluation Metrics with Human Judgement on Persian Language

Machine Translation Evaluation Metrics (MTEMs) are the central core of Machine Translation (MT) engines as they are developed based on frequent evaluation. Although MTEMs are widespread today, their validity and quality for many languages is still under question. The aim of this research study was to examine the validity and assess the quality of MTEMs from Lexical Similarity set on machine tra...

Minimum Imputed-Risk: Unsupervised Discriminative Training for Machine Translation

Discriminative training for machine translation has been well studied in the recent past. A limitation of the work to date is that it relies on the availability of high-quality in-domain bilingual text for supervised training. We present an unsupervised discriminative training framework to incorporate the usually plentiful target-language monolingual data by using a rough “reverse” translation ...

Evaluation of prevalence and pattern of maxillary sinus mucosal thickening in cone beam computed tomography of dental implant candidates in Shiraz, Iran

BACKGROUND AND AIM: This study aimed to assess maxillary sinus floor membrane thickness and ostium patency (OP) in patients undergoing cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) evaluation for implant placement in the posterior maxilla. Mucosal thickening (MT) could be cause of post-operative complications in implant procedures; awareness of this incidence could help proper detection and further succ...
